Half-Day Workshop held in the afternoon
Introduction 1:30 - 1:45 (15 mins):
Workshop motivation, agenda, and organizer introductions.
Speed networking 1:45 - 2:00 (15 mins):
Activity to facilitate attendees getting to know each other.
Hands-on Activity - Human Factors brainstorming 2:00 - 3:00 (60 mins):
Participants will work in small groups to analyze real child-AI interactions, evaluate key human factors, and identify strategies for enhancing trust, engagement, and transparency in AI systems for children.
Coffee break 3:00 - 3:15 (15 mins)
Group activity - Child-AI Interaction scenarios 3:15 -3:45 (30 mins):
Attendees will work in small groups with different people, discussing specific scenarios of child-AI interactions. Each group will then present their reflections, principles, and guideline prompts.
Child-AI human factors mapping 3:45 - 4:15 (30 mins):
How human factors influence or are affected by AI systems.
Invited keynote 4:15 - 5:05 (20 mins + QA):
Marina Escobar Planas, recently earned her PhD in "Trustworthy AI" from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Her research explores the distinction between trustworthy AI and users' subjective trust, with a particular focus on helping children understand the limitations of AI and manage their expectations. Notably, her work on "de-trusting" AI in specific contexts offers valuable insights into fostering trust, transparency, and ethical interactions in AI systems for young audiences.
Metrics Brainstorming 5:05 - 5:35 (30 minutes):
We will refine human factors extracted from the mapping activity to create AI systems for children.
Wrap up 5:35 - 5:50 (15 mins):
Organizers will summarize the workshop activities, with attendees providing feedback, and talk through post-workshop plans.
